2,3 Dimethyl 2,3 Dinitrobutane (DMNB).
2,3 Dimethyl 2,3 Dinitrobutane is
known by its abbreviated form (DMNB). It is used as
tagging agent/detecting agent for plastic bonded explosives
(PBX). Plastic bonded explosives can be easily and
safely carried by terrorist and thus DMNB is incorporated at
0.5 to 1.0% level in plastic bonded explosives for the purpose
of detection of explosive. Incorporation of DMNB or any other
approved detecting agent in plastic bonded explosives is
compulsory for ordnance factories all over world.
Uses: Used as detecting agent at the
level of 0.1 to 0.5% in plastic bonded explosives.
